A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle is a science fiction book that takes the reader on an adventure. The main characters, Meg Murry, Charles Wallace Murry, and Calvin O’Keefe, go on an adventure through space, time, and various galaxies, to rescue Meg and Charles Wallace’s father. Along their journey, they have the support of three witches, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which. We learn in the story that Meg and Charles Wallace’s father is a scientist who created the invention of the tesseract. It is because of this invention that the father goes through a mysterious disappearance. This story explores themes of friendship, the battle between evil and good, conformity, uniqueness, and explores theology. This book is great for children to read and engage with because many of these themes are important for children, it explores themes they are familiar with (good and evil), and is a great stepping stone for children to dive into the world of science fiction and fantasy. This story can be read by children as young as 10 years old, grade 5, and children as young as 8 years old can listen to the story.

  1. I like that this book reflects topics and themes of friendship. I also like how it displays uniqueness and how uniqueness is a beautiful thing that is specific to each person. This can relate to the theme of friendship as it can show that each person brings something unique to the friendship making everyone valued.
