Dr. Maniac Will See You Now by RL Stine

R. L. Stine’s Dr. Maniac Will See You Now is about Richard Dreezer; who enjoys reading comic books and spends most of his time at the neighborhood’s Comic Book Museum. He even fantasizes about becoming a superhero with strange and amazing powers.

Richard is the Dreezer family’s oldest child and suffers from severe allergic reactions that cause him to sneeze frequently. Unfortunately, he appears to have no control over it; as a result, he is frequently picked on by others, including his younger brother Ernie. Richard’s parents constantly fight and argue over trivial matters, but he despises when the fights and arguments center on him.

The best part of the book is when Richard’s parents send him to see Dr. Root, an allergy specialist whose office is right across the street from the Comic Book Museum. When Richard walked into the office, he noticed that everything was painted green, including countertops, lights, and the wallpaper. Dr. Root tells Richard that a single dose of his allergy medication can help cure all of his allergies; thus, the doctor used a two-foot-long needle; the sight of the needle caused Richard to faint; otherwise, he is fine. Later that day, Richard sees all of the characters from comic books come to life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy fiction with a humorous twist. This book is ideal for readers in grades 4-6 due to its excellent sense of imagery.
