“The Ickabog” is a children’s book, written by J.K. Rowling. It’s a fascinating tale filled with magical creatures and themes of bravery and friendship. The story unfolds in a tiny kingdom called Cornucopia, people live in this kingdom as happy as rich. The King enjoyed his luxurious life. On the other side of the Kingdom, a monster living in the northern part of the Marshlands named Ickabog gets people’s attention. Some say it can breathe fire, spit poison, and roar through the mist. Some just believe it’s a myth…Two children are best friends, Bert and Daisy are embarking on their great adventure to untangle the truth and find out whether the monster – Ickabog is a real monster or just a legend. This tale talks about finding the truth, real friendship, and hope in life, and also demonstrates important life lessons. Friendship and loyalty are recurring themes, as characters come together to face adversity. The narrative encourages readers to appreciate the value of trust and support in relationships. This book is collected with beautiful illustrations done by children from Canada and the United States. These illustrations made the book engaging read for both adults and children.

The connection between this book and me is friendship, which is mutual trust, supporting each other, and being a company. It’s about sharing joys and sorrows, understanding, and accepting one another for who they are. Just like the story addresses, true friendship withstands challenges, and friends will provide encouragement and help for each other. As well as the deep meaning of life, will be making a sense of belonging and connection.

  1. Hi Apple,

Thank you for sharing this book. It seems like a great read for young children, covering genres of fantasy, adventure, and science fiction. As someone that has read and loved the Harry Potter as a young reader, this book could be a great book for elementary students to introduce them to the fantasy genre by the same author. I like how it includes real illustrations from children, allowing students the exposure to how they can create books/illustrations. Themes of friendship are important for children, as it teaches them to support one another, creating belonging and making connections. Great choice!
